Place 2 Be

Picture
Place2Be is a charity working inside schools to improve the emotional well-being of children, their families and the whole school community, through a range of activities including play therapy, consultation and classroom support. Place2Be currently works with approximately 200 schools across the country , including 11 schools in the borough of Wandsworth.

Place2Talk and Place2Be individual sessions are key elements of the service in school:

Place2Talk

The Place2Talk is a self-referral service that takes place during the lunch break on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children can request a 15 minute session with the School Project Manager, where they can bring anything that’s on their mind. They are made aware that any concerns arising about their safety or wellbeing will be shared with their parents and appropriate members of school staff, but that otherwise what they bring can stay private. They can choose to come on their own or with up to two friends. This service is open to all children whose parents have given consent for them to attend.

Place2Be individual sessions

There are times when children feel particularly sad, confused, scared or angry, due to difficult life situations such as separation, illness or bereavement. Some may become withdrawn, others may become more demanding or challenging in their behaviour. That is when having Place2Be in school is especially helpful.

The school have created a special Place2Be room, a safe space, where children can express themselves through talking, creative work and play in the presence of a Place2Be Counsellor. This is a regular support that can last for a whole academic year, if needed. The School Project Manager supervises this work. Short term group work and whole class support can also be offered in consultation with the school.
